Community and Curatorial Practice

Yukko Chan develops and curates projects that connect creativity with daily life.

She builds platforms, publications, and events that bring artists and communities together.

In Vancouver, she founded the West Coast Cultural Lab, a non-profit organization that develops cross-disciplinary programs linking art, culture, and technology.

She also created Vancouver On Ink, a free print publication that shares community stories, poetry, and artwork from local contributors.

Her curatorial work focuses on accessibility and collaboration, turning creative ideas into shared cultural experiences.

Directing and Producing

Yukko Chan directs and produces theatre and film projects that range from community performances to stage and touring productions.

She has collaborated with international artists in Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Nepal, Mexico, Bolivia, and Canada, leading projects from concept development to professional production.

Highlighted works include La Distancia Entre Nosotros, a post-pandemic movement theatre piece about connection and life, The Battle of Mum, a music theatre about the strength and vulnerability of mothers, and The Cycle, a dance film created in Mexico inspired by O Me! O Life! by Walt Whitman.

She also directed and performed in La Elección, a collaborative performance that toured five cities in Bolivia and integrated workshops with local artists.

Her directing and producing practice combines artistic vision with clear project management, ensuring that each production runs smoothly and speaks with purpose.

Arts Education

Yukko Chan has over 18 years of teaching experience in performing arts and creative workshops.

She taught Multimedia Performing Arts at the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity and has designed more than 600 tailor-made workshops for schools, cultural centres, and organizations internationally.

Her programs range from devised theatre and theatre performance to life education, creative writing, mask-making, circle painting and filming projects at school level.

She adapts each program to the needs of the group, combining artistic exploration with teamwork, empathy, and real-world application.

Performance

Yukko Chan has performed in theatre productions across Asia, Europe, South America and North America.

Her experience spans solo and ensemble productions presented at international festivals and touring programs.

She was an actress in On the Way to the Front, which toured in France, China, and Hong Kong, and performed at the French May Arts Festival in Hong Kong.

She represented Hong Kong at the Korean International Mask Dance Festival, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.

In Vancouver, she performed in Chicken, a theatre production supported by the BC Arts Council Individual Development Grant, exploring themes of Asian history, family, and migration.
